I Once Was Blind But Now I See

In my faith walk I’ve faced a few challenges that I didn’t expect. I expected being called a Bible thumper or
Jesus freak or falling short of what a true Christian should be. What I didn’t expect was opposition from my
wife. My wife was receptive to some but not all of the changes that I was making.

At first I couldn’t understand why she wasn’t accepting all my changes. I mean most of the changes I was
making were to her benefit. This roadblock in my journey troubled me a lot. How was I to continue growing
with Jesus if my wife wasn’t by my side?

I counseled with a few people both male and female and asked them, “Am I doing something wrong?” All the
answers I received were “No, your doing it right.” This troubled me even more. How was I to make my
marriage work if I couldn’t do anything else to change? My marriage was too important to be right. I needed to
find someone to tell me I was wrong.

Sure enough God led me to my next reading “Every Man’s Marriage” by Steven Arterburn  and Fred Stoeker.
I picked up this book and within the first few chapters; I found out that I was wrong. Wow! I’ve never been
so glad to be wrong.

All the changes I was making were good, however, I was still treating my wife the same. I’d become more
spiritual but I was still the same husband that disregarded my wife’s feelings. This book opened my eyes to
the way I was treating her.

“I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved”

I brought this book home with me and started reading nightly with my wife. It’s amazing, everything in this
book was exactly what Beth and I were experiencing (Again someone stole my story). We are a lot more closer
now that I’m aware of the things I’m doing wrong and willing to make changes. It also opened her eyes to way
she treats me sometimes and she is also willing to make changes.

I’ve realized now that I was taking my wife for granted. My wife’s resistance to my life changes was her way
of telling me so. I thank God for my wife’s courage to let me see the errors in my way and I thank God for
leading me to the book “Every Man’s Marriage.”  If you want a great marriage get this book read it with your
spouse and keep pressing forward!

God Bless You All,

Orlando
