I was blessed with the opportunity to minister to a friend today. Our conversation was about being around
unsaved friends, those who don't believe in God. Being around those unsaved was a burden because it put a
gap between their friendship. I reassured her that not everyone finds Jesus at the same time. Lt. Dan said to
Forest Gump, “Have you found Jesus yet?” Forest replied, “I didn’t know I was supposed to be looking for
him.”
Most people are just going through the motions of life: graduate from school; get a job; get married; buy a
house; have kids; and accumulate stuff. That’s what we learn from the world. The problem is too many
people have chosen to learn from the world instead of the word of God. “Greater is he that is in me, than he
that is of the world.” John 4:4. It’s not until we put God first do we totally understand our true purpose in
life which is to accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior and share it with as many people as
possible.
God has a purpose for everything he does. He puts unbelievers in our presence so that we could minister to
them. Don't give up on them. They just need time and a positive role model for them to follow. Jesus said
"Come, follow me and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19. Follow Jesus and he will show you
how to win the hearts of your friends.
My mom has been praying that I would share the word of God to my friends and family for many years. On
January 9, 1994 my mom gave me my first Bible and wrote me a letter on the inside cover. I included a copy
of the letter below.
Son,
I encourage you to read your Bible everyday. Don’t miss any day. Ask God to give you wisdom and
understanding of each chapter and each word you read. This book is your lifetime gift. This is your strength,
your comfort, your courage in everything you do. Pray before and after you read the chapter. You will
experience many blessings in your life and you will be given courage to share what you learn from here with
your friends and others.
When you pray, include your friends, relatives, classmates, and the needy people around the world. May our
Almighty Father give you the power of His Spirit as your guide and help in your daily life... God will show you
when you ask His will. Follow His way. He is the only way to salvation. Share to others what God has done in
your life... God will give you courage to do what he wants you to do.
My mom realized that I wasn’t putting the Bible to use. So she took it back and used it herself. When I began
my walk with Jesus in August 2007, my mom returned the Bible to me. As you can see God answered her
prayers. It did take 13 years, but he came through. My mom left the door open for me. You should do the
same for your friends. All we can do is pray that they find their way and be a positive example for them to
follow.
