My Decision to Follow Jesus
August 27, 2007

Although I’m only 32 years I’ve always wondered what was the meaning of life?  What is my purpose?
Many people are either driven by guilt; resentment and anger; fear; materialism; or need for approval.  I’ve
figured that I tend to be driven by a need for approval.  In my quest for the meaning of life I've stumbled
across a few good authors, Tony Robbins and Zig Zigler.  For the last 5 years+- I’ve been using their books
and tapes to help mold my life.

At the beginning of 2007 like most, I wrote down all my goals that I wanted to accomplish.

•        I wanted to improve my relations with my family
•        I wanted to reduce my alcohol consumption
•        I wanted to improve my physical fitness
•        Cut back watching T.V.
•        Getting my Real Estate Brokerage License
•        Improving my faith in God

A month ago when I reviewed my goals I realized that I accomplished almost everything on that list.

•         Every waking hour I try to spend as much time with my wife and kids
•         I’ve reduced my alcohol consumption (those that were on the cruise with me may say differently)
•         I’ve been working out with a personal trainer weekly
•         I’ve reduced my T.V. time to approximately 4-7 hours a week and their usually my kids shows
•         I’m two classes and the state exam away from my broker’s license.

As you can see in my list of accomplishments, it doesn’t include improving my faith in God.

The point I’m trying to make, is that although I’ve almost completed all my goals, I left out the most
important piece (God).  With all my accomplishments, I still felt empty inside.  That empty feeling has
brought me to where I am today.

Wouldn’t life be a whole lot simpler if at birth you were given a manual for life?  A manual that says this is
what you’re supposed to do.  The funny thing about the question, is that there always was a manual (The
Bible), I just never bothered to pick it up.

“One day you will stand before God, and he will do an audit of your life, a final exam, before you enter
eternity, The Bible says, “Remember, each of us will stand personally before the judgment seat of God… Yes,
each of us will have to give a personal account to God,” Fortunately God wants us to pass this test, so he has
given us the questions in advance.  From the Bible we can surmise that God will ask us two crucial questions:

First, “What did you do with my Son, Jesus Christ?”  God won’t ask about your religious background or
doctrinal views.  The only thing that will matter is, did you accept what Jesus did for you and did you learn to
love and trust him?  Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except
through me.”

Second, “What did you do with what I gave you?”  What did you do with your life – all the gifts, talents,
opportunities, energy, relationships and resources God gave you?  Did you spend them on yourself, or did you
use them for the purposes God made you for?”

The first question will determine where you spend eternity.  The second question will determine what you do in
eternity.  (The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren)

My mom began reaching out to teenagers with this message when I was in high school.  I’ve come to realize
that my purpose is to assist her and continuing to spread this message to as many people as possible.  Life is
still going to have turmoil, sickness, and stress.  But these things are a whole lot easier to deal with when you
have someone to ask for help, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

God Bless You All
