Understanding the Word of God

Dear Friends and Family,                                                                                                                 May 31, 2008

I woke up with a message that I just had to share. In my continuing walk with the Lord, I wondered why did it
take so long for me to be fired up about God. Was it my immaturity, lack of exposure, or a desire not to live a
righteous life?  Now don’t get me wrong, I’m in no way righteous, “There is no one righteous, not even one”
Romans 3:10. I’m constantly falling into sin, but as a Christ follower, I’m called to seek righteousness.

I know for a fact that it wasn’t lack of exposure because my mom brought me to church on Sundays and shared
her journey with the Lord. Immaturity and a desire not to live a righteous life I think had a big role in me
putting God aside. Even though I accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior in my early 20’s, I never
wanted to give up the misadventures that were awaiting me.

I think the main reason I put God in the back burner was I just didn’t fully understand the Word of God. My
mom once told me that God should be numero uno in my life. I pondered that statement from her and realized
if she put God first, that means I’m not number one in her life. I’ve come to realize we must put God first
because “his ways are higher than our ways” Isaiah 55:8-9.

An example of this is seen in many church scandals in the media. There have been many religious figures that
have strayed from the Word of God and put a bad label on religion. Because all men and women are susceptible
to sin we shouldn’t put our faith in them, we should put our faith in the Word.

I learned in business that the greatest complement is a referral. So I want to refer everyone to Christian City
Church of San Diego
(www.cccsandiego.com). Now if you don’t live in San Diego then just download sermons
from their website
(www.cccsandiego.com/sermonscurrent.php). The pastors, Jurgen and his wife Leanne
Matthesius, are very entertaining and they make it easy to grasp the concepts of the Bible. Now if you already
have a church that you call home, I’m not trying to get you to leave your church. I just want to expose you to
the same message with a different twist.

I relate my understanding of the Word of God to food. I’m a picky eater and only eat food that looks good.
When I was younger I didn’t like pork because a big pig on the table with an apple in its mouth was not
appetizing to me. I couldn’t really appreciate other pork products until someone served me pork chops (it
looked more like a steak than a pig). Now that I know pork tastes good, I can now enjoy Kaluau pork and
other pork dishes.

Like food, the Word of God needed to be package in a way that was appetizing to me. After visiting Christian
City Church and seeing how good the Word of God is, I want to read my Bible, I want to listen to sermons on
the radio, and I want to share it with everyone.

So, this new section will include sermons that will improve your understanding of the Word and help you
improve your relationship with Jesus Christ. I hope you enjoy and share this section with others. The first
sermon I want to share is one from January 20, 2008 and it is titled "Freedom". If you've watched
"Braveheart", "300", or "Gladiator", you'll really appreciate this one. Just press play on the media player on
the below.

God Bless
